History

After the epic war of the Mahabharata, the remaining people returned to their respective places for peace and atonement. Lord Balram, the elder brother of Shri Krishna, also left with his cows. During his journey, he discovered a beautiful place in Binhar. The villagers warmly welcomed Lord Balram and his cows. He meditated there for some time, and during this period, the villagers took care of the cows. After completing his meditation, Lord Balram left for Badrinath, promising villagers that he would come back in the form of a stone to take care of them and their cattle.

Years passed, and villagers slowly lost hope. On one fine day, a local boy is looking for medicinal herbs near the Yamuna bank. During his search, he heard a mysterious voice calling out, "Take me out". The frightened boy ran back and informed his friends about the incident.

Later, the boy and his friends returned to the spot, and they all heard the same voice. Upon digging, the boy found an idol of Lord Balram. The idol directed the boy to place it on a hilltop. The boy was also told that once the idol reached its spot, it would become too heavy to carry. When he arrived at the Bhadraj Hilltop, the idol indeed became heavier, and the boy placed the idol at the same spot where the current temple stands.

The exhausted boy is now looking for water, but can't even find a single drop. Suddenly, he heard a loud noise instructing him to move forward and remove the stone. After doing so, he finds the water source. This spring is currently located at Matogi Village, and remains constant throughout the year.
