  • Being a hilly region, most of the attractions in Chakrata require trekking, so physical strength is necessary.
  • Even in summers, weather conditions remain cold during night and morning, it is advisable to keep some warm clothes.
  • Though the city offers good mobile network connectivity but offbeat places like Moila and Tiger Fall connectivity is limited, carrying cash is advisable during the journey.
  • Several banks like SBI, ICICI, HDFC, Axis bank do offer 24 ATMs services in Chakrata main market, but withdrawing cash in advance is recommended.
  • Petrol Pumps are not widely available, so it's important to refill your tank in Vikasnagar. Although, some local shop owners do sell petrol and diesel illegally at higher rates which are of substandard quality.
  • Monsoon season is not ideal for visiting as it receives moderate to heavy rainfall, causing landslides in some areas.
  • Driving during snowfall could be challenging, it's must to carry snow chains and other essential accessories like walking sticks, umbrellas, and raincoats.
  • As Chakrata is part of a reserved forest and a cantonment area, visitors are advised to adhere to the rules and regulations.

Location and Connectivity
 

Chakrata is located on the Dehradun-Vikasnagar-Kalsi-Sahiya road, which takes around 3 and half an hour to reach. It offers good road connectivity from Dehradun as well as nearby areas.

How to Reach

By Road : - Chakrata City is located around 88 km from Dehradun ISBT and Clock Tower. It is connected very well through motorable roads from places like Dehradun, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, and Haryana. Visitors can avail state transport bus services from Dehradun ISBT or can also hire cab.
 

By Rail : - The nearest railway station is in Dehradun, located around 88 km. This station connects well with the major rail heads of the country. Taxis are easily available at the stations but those preferring buses must travel 6 km to IBST.
 

By Air : - The nearest Airport is in Jolly Grant, Dehradun, which is about 114 km away. Major airlines offer direct flights to Dehradun. For a seamless journey visitors must book their taxi in advance.

Best Time to Visit

Although this place remains open to welcome tourists throughout the year, the optimal time is considered to be from April to June and from September to December. Visitors may face various challenges during monsoon and winters, which may cause inconvenience for travelers.
