First Tibetan Temple
The Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet, sought refuge here after their exile in 1959. He stayed in the Happy Valley for over a year, and during his stay, he laid the foundation of a Tibetan temple known as 'Shedup Choeplling Temple'. It is the first Buddhist shrine in India, which was built by him. A group of community members left here starts preaching Buddhism for peace and harmony. In support of the community, the Indian Government opened a Central School for Tibetan Children.
In addition to this, Happy Valley also houses the renowned Dalai Hills, which offer a breathtaking view of Mussoorie and the Himalayas. People often visit here in large numbers to enjoy the scenic beauty and picturesque view of Hathi Paon, the Himalayas and Benog Hills.
