Bhadraj Temple

Dedicated to Lord Balram the elder brother of Shri Krishna, Bhadraj Temple is situated in the western part of Mussoorie. Established in the Dwapar Era, it is said that Lord Balram performed penance here for years. It is just 13 km from Mussoorie but the challenging trails it offers are of next level. A wise man said that bad trails often lead to good places.
Though the trails of Bhadraj are not that bad, somewhere you might feel it. The view its trails offer are just the trailer, the climax awaits at the pinnacle. On a clear sunny day, the temple offers a mesmerizing view, which is unforgettable and can’t be expressed in words.
Built with white marble, the temple has a wholesome look. The major attraction of the temple is a fair held by the committee every year, from 15 to 17 August. Fair attracts a multitude of people from afar, showcasing the rich culture and tradition of the people. People offer milk and grains to the lord, and seek his blessing.
Leather items such as shoes, purses and belts along with edible items are not allowed within the temple premises. Temples offer a panoramic view of the Himalayas along with Doon Valley. During winters, the temple is covered in a thick sheet of snow. Usually this place is thronged with trekking enthusiasts, nature lovers, and devotees.
How to Reach
Located around 48 km from Dehradun ISBT, Bhadraj Temple is situated in Western Part of Mussoorie. Roads connected to temples are not wider and the varying trails will also test your driving skills. Destinations can be accessible through two wheeler with powerful engine and a good ground clearance four wheeler. The nearest railway station and airport is in Dehradun situated approximately 44 km and 69 km away, respectively.
Best Time to Visit
The temples remain open throughout the year, but the most preferable visiting times are from August to December and February to April. The trails to the temple are difficult and monsoon rain makes them even more difficult for visitors. Every year, the temple hosts a two day fair in the third week of August, attracting a multitude of visitors from afar. Visitors may face severe challenges during monsoon and snowfall season, so it is advisable to avoid visiting during these times or take enough precautions.
