Trayambakeshwar Temple is one of the most sacred places in the pious city of Rishikesh. This 1,000-year-old multi-storey temple attracts several devotees from far and wide with its intricate architectural design and significance. Set on the bank of the holy Ganges, it offers a blissful view of the river, especially during the evening. The temple has thirteen storeys, with each featuring intricately designed stone idols of various Gods and Goddesses, with a Shivalinga enshrined at the top. The temple generally opens for darshan around 6 a.m. and closes by 8 p.m. It is important to note that this temple is not related to Trimbakeshwar Temple in Maharashtra, which is one of the 12th Jyotirlingas in India.

Tera Manzil Temple in Rishikesh

The name Trayambakeshwar is derived from a Sanskrit word, "Tri" means "Three", "Ambaka" means "Eyes", and "Ishwara" means "Lord". On the other hand, the temple is prominent with its other name 'Tera Manzil', where the Word 'Tera' refers to the number thirteen (tera in Hindi). Each storey of the temple portrays a story related to war, love, marriage and miracles. Visitors can also attend a Ganga Aarti held daily at 7:00 pm in summer and 5:30 pm in winter.

Architectural Style

Situated adjacent to Laxman Jhula, the temple was constructed in a combination of Nagara and Dravidian architectural styles, giving it an essence of both North and South Indian architecture. The walls and pillars are inscribed with stories in classic North Indian carvings, while the mandapas and gopuram reflect strong South Indian influences. From the 13th floor, the panoramic view of the Ganges is simply majestic and can't be seen anywhere in Rishikesh. Along with this, you can also witness a breathtaking sunset from this floor.

The Trayambakeshwar Temple in Rishikesh holds great historical and spiritual significance. This thirteen-storey temple is said to be 1,000 years old, whose foundation was laid by the revered Guru Adi Shankaracharya in the 12th Century AD. It is believed that the Shivalinga in the sanctum sanctorum is Swayambhu, a self-manifested or self-incarnated, and was not placed or set up by any. With all its magnificence and divine aura, the temple captivates both devotees and tourists visiting Rishikesh.

Trayambkeshwar Temple in Rishikesh is open daily at 6:00 am and closes around 8:00 pm. However, it remains closed for darshan between 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm.
