Among the various tourist attractions in Mussoorie, Gun Hill is a highly underrated spot. Located just 1.5 km from Mussoorie Library Chowk, this place is said to be one of the highest peaks of Mussoorie. Perched at an elevation of 2000 meters, Gun Hill offers you a 360 degree picturesque view of the Mussoorie and Doon Valley. Gun hill is an ideal spot for any photographer who loves to capture nature through their lenses.

Located 400 feet above the road, it is just a 20 minute walk away from the mall road. If you want to enjoy the scenic beauty of Doon valley and Mussoorie then, a cable car ride would be a great choice. Gun Hill has two different theories for its name. As per the people, locals brought a cannon to the top of the hill to fire at the Britishers. Another theory suggests that the Britishers fired a shot daily at noon, so that locals would know the time.

How to Reach

Located about 39 km from Dehradun ISBT, this beautiful view point is situated in Mussoorie. Visitors can access this place by road with the readily available bus and taxi service from Dehradun ISBT and the railway station. However, the exact location is accessible either through a cable car or on foot. Cable car round trip services are available from Library chowk. The nearest railway station and airport are in Dehradun, situated 33 km and 60 km away, respectively.

Best Time to Visit

Visitors can access the location round the year, but the ideal time to visit is from March to July and September to January. Visitors must be cautious when visiting during the rainy and snowfall season.
