History of Prachin Siddhpeeth Daat Mahakali Mandir

According to a popular belief, during British rule, Britishers and their engineers were engaged in the construction of a railway line. However, upon reaching the point where the current temple stands, they were unable to move further. They failed miserably to cut a part of the mountain to make way for the railway track.

One day, one of the Britishers associated with that project had a divine dream. In his dream, the Goddess Kali appeared before him and said her idol was enshrined inside a cave in the mountain. She instructed him to bring out the idols and build a temple at that place. Goddess assured him that after doing this, they would not face any obstacles in the railway line construction further. The officer shares his dream with his senior officials, and after receiving approval, they start digging the mountain in search of the idol. After some efforts, the workers discovered the cave and the idol.

Following the deity's instructions, they built a small temple and enshrined the same idol. After this, they resumed their construction and didn't face any further difficulties.

It is believed that the idol worshipped in the temple today is the same idol found by the workers at that time. Since then, as a gesture of respect and devotion, every train passing through this temple blows its horn in honour of Goddess Kali.
