Har Ki Pauri is one of the major ghats in the holy city of Haridwar. Located on the banks of sacred Ganges, Har Ki Pauri holds great significance and importance among Hindus. Being considered as the landmark of the city, Har ki Pauri is also known as Brahma Kund. Due to its religious importance, millions of devotees visit this place round the year. The world's largest religious gathering, Kumbh and Ardh Kumbh Mela, also take place here. From its origin in Gangotri, the Ganges exits the mountain and enters the plain at this spot.

Mythology of Har Ki Pauri
 

Har Ki Pauri is one of the four places where the Elixir of immortality (Amrit) spilled during the Samudra Manthan, other places are Prayagraj, Ujjain, and Nashik. The place where the nectar drop in Haridwar is now known as Brahma kund, which is why bathing at this ghat cleanses one's sins. In Har ki Pauri, 'Har' stand for "God - Lord Vishnu", and 'Pauri' stand for "Steps". According to legend, Lord Vishnu visited Brahma Kund and a large footprint near the ghat is believed to be of his, which is why the spot is known as Har Ki Pauri.
