Haridwar is renowned for its famous temples, among them Maya Devi Temple holds a special place among 51 Shakti Peeth. It is just 2 km away from Haridwar railway station and located on the east of Har Ki Pauri. Pilgrims from across the country visit here to seek the blessing of Goddess Maya Devi, the revered deity of the shrine. The deity depicted as a three headed and four armed idol, often regarded as the incarnation of Goddess Shakti. In the sanctum of the temple, one can find the deity Maya in the center, with Kali on the left and Kamakhya on the right. Mythologists believe that the heart and navel of the Goddess Sati fell here, which is why the temple is referred as the Shakti Peeth. During Navratri this place is thronged with visitors. Previously, Haridwar was also known as Mayapuri due to its resonance with the deity.
