Dedicated to Lord Rama’s younger brother Laxman, this Laxman temple is located in Chamoli, Uttarakhand. Situated on the bank of Hemkund Lake, this temple sits at an elevation of 14000 feet. Sitting on the lap of nature, this temple is a perfect example of serenity, offering a picturesque landscape and enchanting view. Sikhs pilgrims usually offer their prayers during their Hemkund sahib pilgrimage. Known as Lokpal Laxman Temple, it is surrounded with many folklore.

According to one legend, Laxman performed a penance here to regain his power after killing Meghnad, leading to the construction of the temple. Another legend said that Sheshnag performed penance here and was reborn as Laxman to king Dashrath in the Dwapar era. Temple portals open and close on the same day as Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara. The head priest of the temple belongs to the nearby Bhyundar village.

How to Reach

Situated in Uttarakhand, Chamoli district, this temple is about 310 km from Dehradun. Devotees may visit the temple during Hemkund Sahib pilgrimage. The temple is accessible by road up to Govindghat after which a further 20 km is to be covered on foot. Bus, taxi and private cab services are available from Dehradun and Rishikesh. The nearest railway station and airport to the temple are located in Haridwar and Dehradun, approximately 295 km and 290 km away, respectively.

Best Time to Visit

As the temple is located in the Hemkund Gurudwara premises, its portals remain open during Hemkund yatra. However, May to June and September to October are generally considered the most preferable times to visit. It is advisable to avoid visiting during Monsoon, as you may face numerous issues.
