Gupt Sahastradhara is one of the offbeat destinations, located far from the city. Nestled amidst mountains and the beautiful Tons River, it offers nature in its purest form. Gupt Sahastradhara is situated near a prominent temple of the town called Baglamukhi Mata Temple. Visitors often come here to seek the blessings of Baglamukhi Mata. Besides the confluence of the Tons and Yamuna River, a major attraction of this place is a 200 Old Banyan Tree standing tall in the temple courtyard.

It is believed that the site is associated with the Pandavas, who visited during their exile and stayed for a few days in a cave known as Pandavas Cave. It is a perfect place for a day trip, especially in summer, to escape from the city's hustle and bustle and allow visitors to soak in the cool waters of the Tons River.

Untouched Beauty

Gupt Sahastradhara is around 5 km from Dakpathar Barrage and 26 km from Paonta Sahib. The site is located in Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh which is close to Uttarakhand Border. Unlike Sahastradhara in Dehradun, it is one of the untouched beauty that is not visited by many and still remains in its raw form. Nearby, a beautiful waterfall cascades down from the mountain, alluring visitors to bathe beneath it. After descending from the mountains, its water merges into the tons river.

The Tons River is one of the largest tributary of Yamuna. After flowing some distance from this location, it merges with Yamuna. The depth of the Tons River at this particular site ranges between 2 to 30 feet, with strong currents. Encircled by mountains, this place offers a close connection with nature, making it an ideal destination to hang out with friends and family.

Mythology

Many places in Uttarakhand are deeply connected to the Pandavas. According to legend, the Pandavas explored several places in Uttarakhand during their exile and laid the foundation of various temples. Similar to other temples, the Baglamukhi Temple situated at Gupt Sahastradhara is also connected with Pandavas. The temple courtyard comprises a unique five structure of similar shape and size called Pandav Chakki, and, nearby, there is a cave known as Pandav Cave. It is believed that the Pandavas resided here for a few days during their exile. Unlike the Pandava Cave near Lakhamandal Temple, this cave is inaccessible as authorities have closed it for the public.

Picnicking	Situated on the outskirts, the location is perfect for a day out, providing a perfect spot for picnicking with friends and family.
Bathing	Visitors can splash and also take a bath in the Tons river.
Seek Blessing	To seek the blessing of Baglamukhi Mata, travellers can also visit the temple situated next to the location. The idol of Lord Hanuman can also be seen in the Temple courtyard, along with Pandav Chakki.
Pandav Gufa	Near the location, visitors can explore a small cave known as "Pandav Cave". It is believed that Pandavas resided in this cave for some days during their exile.

Accommodation Facility

Visitors planning to stay near the location will be disappointed, as it does not offer any staying facilities. Visitors planning to spend a day or more must visit nearby places mainly Vikasnagar or Paonta Sahib to find suitable stays for them.

Important Tips for Travellers

The location is in a remote area, travelling by own vehicle or booking a cab is the best option.
The road from the entrance gate is narrow and unmetalled, it is advisable to park the vehicle at the entrance.
Free road side parking is available at the entrance gate.
The actual location is not directly connected with the road, so visitors must cover some distance on foot.
Walk cautiously, as the stairs and path leading to the location from the temple are narrow.
Accommodation facilities are unavailable near the location.
Travelling by private car may incur toll charges.
Changing room facility is not provided near the location.
Exercise caution while bathing in the Tons river because its length at some points is too deep.
During monsoon season, excessive rainfall may increase the water level and current significantly.
Unpaved roads may cause challenges to access the location during monsoon.
Since the area is yet to be commercialized, eateries are not available near the site.
As the place is close to nature, leeches and snakes may be spotted, especially during monsoon.

How to Reach

By Road : - Gupt Sahastradhara is around 46 km from Dehradun and 26 km away from Paonta Sahib Bus Stand. Since it is located on the outskirts of Himachal Pradesh, direct bus or taxi service is unavailable. Visitors can either take a bus from Dehradun ISBT to Vikasnagar and complete the further journey by availing a shared taxi from Vikasnagar or book a cab to reach the site directly. Buses on the Dehradun-Vikasnagar route run at regular intervals.

By Rail : - The nearest station is in Dehradun, located around 47 km away. It offers good connectivity to major rail routes such as Haridwar, Delhi, and Lucknow. Visitors can book a taxi from the station or take a bus service up to Vikasnagar from Dehradun ISBT. Dehradun ISBT is about 5 km from the station and can be reached by taking mini city buses, Vikram (Route No. 5), auto, and Tata Magic.

By Air : - The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun, around 72 km away. It provides direct connectivity to major cities, mainly Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Kolkata, and others. App based taxi services like Ola and Uber are not available at the airport. Visitors can either book a taxi from the airport directly or can travel up to Dehradun ISBT and follow the road route as mentioned above.

Best Time to Visit

Visitors may access the spot throughout the year, but the most suitable time is generally considered to be from February to May and September to November. It is advisable to avoid visiting this place during monsoon, as this may lead to encountering various issues.
