About
George Everest Peak is one of the major tourist attractions in Mussoorie. Named after British Surveyor Sir George Everest, the peak is located just 5 km from Mussoorie Library Chowk and is easily accessible. It offers a panoramic view of the surrounding area, including the snow-clad Himalayan peaks and the Doon Valley. The beauty and charm of George Everest captivate every visitor who visits Mussoorie. The actual site is about 1 km away from the parking area. You can either trek to the peak or opt for their Golf Cart services at a nominal cost of Rs 100/-. This cart offers a one-way ride from the entrance gate to the George House. During winters, the area also receives snowfall, which turns this lush green area into a winter wonderland.
Park Estate
The George Everest House and Library, also known as Park Estate, was constructed in 1832. Being a popular heritage site, it has been completely restored by the Uttarakhand Government. Nestled in the lap of nature, the site offers a serene and peaceful environment, where you can enjoy a beautiful sunset.
Sir George Everest Peak in Mussoorie is open to visitors throughout the week. Besides its scenic beauty, visitors can now enjoy an Air Safari at George Everest, which comes through various packages. Such scenic views will be perfect for a pre-wedding shoot, which can be booked for Rs 25,000/- for four hours.
George Everest Peak Trek
George Everest Peak is around 900 meters uphill from the George Everest House, and the only way to reach it is by hiking. This short trek offers a breathtaking view of the area, particularly in winter. Before starting a trek, you need to sign a form (a new addition by the authority), which states that during the trek or at the peak, if you encounter any mishap, then you are solely responsible for it, and the managing authorities area are not liable for any mishaps.
Entry Fees
Earlier, visitors were not required to pay any entry fee, but now entry charges apply based on the visitor categories. Entry Fees can be paid in cash or via digital modes. Air Safari at George Everest
At George Everest Peak in Mussoorie, visitors can also experience Air Safari. This activity was added recently by the authority, offering you a next-level adventure. In this, you can enjoy a thrilling view of Himalayan Peak, George Everest Peak, and Mussoorie. For this, the government also constructed a helipad near the site, which was named after Radhanath Sikdar, the Indian Mathematician who is known as the first person to calculate the height of Mount Everest.

George Everest Museum
The state government has transformed the Sir George Everest House into a Cartography Museum. Sir George Everest lived here from 1832 to 1843. This house is considered one of the earliest houses built in Mussoorie. Cartography refers to the study and practice of map-making. Along with Sir George Everest, the museum also showcases details about Radhanath Sikdar, who is believed to calculated the height of the mountain. The historic equipment used by the surveyors during that period is among the major attractions.

History
George Everest Peak was named after British Surveyor Sir George Everest, who measured the height of the tallest peak in the world, Mt Everest, earlier the peak was known as XV. Served as a Surveyor General of India from 1830-1843, Sir George Everest is largely known for his meridian arc survey. The George Everest House and Library, known as Park Estate, was first built in 1932. Being a popular heritage site, this site is completely restored by the Uttarakhand Government.

Important Tips for Travellers
- During weekends, you may experience a huge rush, so plan your visit accordingly.
- For overnight stays, visitors must book their accommodation in advance, particularly during peak season.
- Paid Parking facility is available for both two-wheeler and four-wheeler vehicles.
- You can park your vehicle either at its first entrance gate or at the museum parking area.
- You can also opt for an ATV Safari Shuttle from its base parking area to the George House.
- It is advisable to carry water bottles, otherwise, shops at George Everest will charge you thrice the bottle MRP.
- Keep your entry ticket safe, as it will be checked two or three times at different stages.
- Mobile network coverage is low in the area, so it is advisable to carry sufficient cash.

How to Reach
By Road : - George Everest Peak is located in Khanij Nagar near Mussoorie, around 40 km from Dehradun ISBT and just 5 km from Mussoorie's Library Chowk. It can be reached via bus from Dehradun Hill Bus Station, by booking a cab or by renting a two-wheeler. There are two routes to reach George Everest: one via Kimadi and the other via Mussoorie. The Kimadi route is preferable if you are travelling by cab or two-wheeler, as this route doesn't offer a public transport service. Whereas, travelling by bus will follow the Dehradun Mussoorie road, which will drop you at Mussoorie's Library Chowk. From where, you can take a shared taxi or rent a two-wheeler, as George Everest is just 5 km away from Mussoorie.
By Rail : - The nearest railway station is Dehradun Railway Station, offering decent connectivity with the nearest railheads. George Everest is located around 41 km away from Dehradun Railway Station. From there, you can take a taxi or catch a bus from the adjacent Dehradun Hill Bus Stand. Alternatively, two-wheeler rental facility is also available from various nearby vendors.
By Air : - The closest airport is Dehradun Jolly Grant Airport, situated around 65 km away. From the airport, you can hire a taxi directly to George Everest or opt for a helicopter service (if available) from Jolly Grant to George Everest.
Best Time to Visit
George Everest can be visited throughout the year. However, the best time to experience its majestic view is from September to March, when the weather is pleasant and views are clear. You can also visit during monsoon, but it has its pros and cons.
