Prachin Narayani Shila Temple, Haridwar

Haridwar is renowned as a religious city that draws millions of pilgrims every year. Several religious places in Haridwar are mentioned in ancient religious texts, and among them, the ancient Nayarani Shila Temple holds a prominent place. Located near Ganesh Ghat, the Narayani Shila is also known as Pret Shila and is easily accessible from different parts of the city.

As mentioned in the Vayu Purana, Lord Narayan, the presiding deity of Narayani Shila Temple, is believed to be present from the throat to the Navel, while his feet are in Gaya (Bihar) and his head resides in Badrinath at Bhramkapali. Every visitor's wish is fulfilled here as the Goddess Laxmi, who resides in the heart of Naryana, is also present at this site.

Importance of Narayani Shila Pind Daan and Shradh

According to legend, Lord Badri Vishal himself resides in the place, which is why performing Shradh and Pind Daan at Narayani Temple leads to salvation. There are only a few places considered the most significant for performing Shradh, such as Bhramkapali (Badrinath), Narayani Shila (Haridwar) and Gaya (Bihar).

The head priest of this temple states that it is clearly described in the Skand Purana that performing Shradh at Narayani Shila grants salvation to 100 paternal and maternal ancestors. The importance of this place can be understood from the fact that many people purchase a very small piece of land in the complex to build a small temple in memory of their ancestors.

Shradh and Pind Daan Rituals Timing

As soon as the temple gate opens, a large number of devotees start gathering to perform rituals. Due to limited space, visitors may sometimes need to wait for their number. The entire ritual takes 2 to 3 hours to complete. Most people bring their own priest. However, the priest and list of items required to perform these ceremonies are also available here. After completing the rituals, devotees can offer prayers and make offerings at the temple.

Narayani Shila Temple Opening Timings

The temple opens daily for the devotees at 6:00 AM during summer and 7:00 AM during winter, and remains open until 5:00 PM. The temple never closes during the daytime, allowing devotees to perform their ceremonies.
