About

Kasar Devi Temple is one of the most popular Hindu religious sites in the Almora district of Uttarakhand. Dedicated to Goddess Durga, it is considered one of the most powerful temples in the region. Located within the Earth's Van Allen Belt, the temple is famous for its geomagnetic field. The temple is situated on the ridge of a hilltop, offering a 360-degree view of the surroundings with a majestic sunset. Its geographical and religious importance attracts a large number of visitors throughout the year.

Annual Fair

Situated just 8 km from Almora, the temple is situated near a village called Kasar Devi. It is believed that the temple was established in the 2nd Century CE. Every year on the occasion of Kartik Punrima, the temple hosts the annual Kasar Devi Fair, attracting several devotees. The temple is easily accessible from the main road, which is hardly 10-15 minute walk away. Due to its strong geomagnetic field, devotees may feel a unique energy during meditation.

Eternal Flame

The complex of the Kasar Devi Temple is divided into two sections, one is dedicated to Goddess Durga, where her idol is enshrined, and the other is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Bhairava. Visitors need to climb 50 stairs to reach the second section. A Shivling is placed inside the sanctum, and the Nandi idol is placed outside the shrine. In addition to this, there is an idol of Lord Bhairava outside the shrine. The Akhand Jyoti, called the eternal flame in the main shrine, is said to have been blazing continuously for many years. Behind the idol of Goddess Durga, a natural rock formation resembles the image of a lion.

Cosmic Energy

Due to its rare geographical location, Kasar Devi Temple is one of the three places on Earth known for their strong geomagnetic field, confirmed by a NASA scientist. The other two places are Machu Picchu in Peru and Stonehenge in the UK. When Swami Vivekananda visited the shrine in 1890, he meditated in a nearby cave and shared his spiritual experience. Since then, the temple has gained significant recognition, and due to its Cosmic energy, it has now become a prominent spiritual destination.
