About

Dedicated to Goddess Kali, Kalimath temple is located in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand. Shrine portal remains open for devotees throughout the year where devotees usually come in large numbers, especially during Navratri. Nestled amidst lush green mountains, the temple offers an enchanting view. Placed among 52 Shakti Peethas of India, this temple holds special significance.

According to legend, after killing the demon named Raktabeej, Mother Kali had disappeared into a pond located below the rock, where the demon was killed. Now, that place is covered with a silver plate, which people call Shri Yantra. Under this Yantra, there is a rock of Goddess Kali, which is worshiped once a year on the eighth day of Shardiya Navratri. During this, only the chief priest of the temple remains present near the rock.

According to another belief, devotees can worship the lower part of the goddess in Kalimath, while the upper part is worshiped at Dhari Devi, 40 km away from here. Situated amidst the mountains, this temple looks very scenic, and around it, devotees will find Goddess Lakshmi, Saraswati, Gauri Shankar and many Shiva Lingas installed. A little further from the temple, the shrine of Bhairav Baba is situated, where devotees usually go after having the blessing of Maa Kali.
