Golu Devta Temple is one of the most revered shrines in Nainital. The temple holds immense religious significance, which attracts devotees from far and wide. To fulfil their desire, devotees tie a paper slip in the temple, and once their wish is fulfilled, they offer a bell as a mark of their gratitude. This tradition is the reason why the temple is also known as Bell Temple (Ghantiyon wala mandir). Golu Devta, the presiding deity of the temple, is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva in the form of Batuk Bhairav.

Golu Devta Temple, Ghorakhal, Nainital

Located in Ghorakhal near Sainik School, the Golu Devta Temple is widely known as the God of Justice. It is situated just 14 km from Nainital and 11 km from the revered Kainchi Dham. It is believed that if someone is facing any issue, they can simply write their problem on paper and tie it in the temple, and Golu Devta will do justice for you. Many devotees even send their petition on stamp paper. Once their request is fulfilled, they offer a bell to express their gratitude. The entire premises of the temple are adorned with lakhs of bells, showing the faith of devotees and the belief that justice prevails through the deity.

Ghorakhal Golu Devta- The God of Justice

Golu Devta is prominently known as the God of Justice. According to local belief, he used to travel on his white horse to meet the people of his kingdom, called Golu Darbar. During this darbar, the Golu Devta heard the problem and resolved it appropriately. It is believed that Golu Devta still meets his people in many villages. In current times, Jagar is the process where Golu Devta meets his people and resolves their issues.

Golu Devta- The Bell Temple

The main shrine of Golu Devta is located a few metres away from the main road and is easily accessible on foot. As soon as you enter the temple complex, you will see bells hanging everywhere. There is hardly any place where devotees have not tied bells. It is said that lakhs of bells have been kept in the temple storeroom to make space for new offerings. Inside the main sanctum, the idol of Golu Devta can be seen seated on a white horse.

While writing their slips, devotees ensure that their requests are genuine and do not harm others. If a false request is submitted, the deity will not accept it.

By Road: Golu Devta Temple is situated around 14 km from Nainital Tallital Bus Stand. Devotees can reach the temple by taking shared taxis or cab services, which are readily available from Nainital. 
 

By Rail: The nearest railway station is Kathgodam Station, approximately 33 km away. The station provides shared taxis, buses and cab services up to Nainital. From there, visitors can continue their journey by available means.
 

By Air: The nearest airport to the temple is Pantnagar Airport, around 66 km away. From the airport, visitors can either hire a taxi or take a bus from the bus stand to access the shrine.

Golu Devta Temple remains open to devotees throughout the year. However, the best time to visit is from September to June, when the conditions are favourable and suitable for pilgrims to explore the place thoroughly.
