Devprayag is a small town situated in Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. This place is known for the confluence of two holy rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi, where the Holy Ganges river originates. It mentions that people from around the world visit this site to witness the ‘Godly Confluence, which is considered sacred’. Additionally, this place is also revered as the final Prayag of the ‘Panch Prayag’ a group of five sacred confluences of river Alaknanda followed by VishnuPrayag, Nandprayag, Karnaprayag, and Rudrapryag. According to the mythology, King Bhagirath brought Ganga to earth through penance, hence the place is also known as the birthplace of Maa Ganga. The Prefix ‘Dev’ in Devprayag is derived from the saint Dev sharma, who lived his ascetic life here. It is also mentioned in the Ramayana, King Dashrath and lord Rama perform penance in this area. Moreover, you will find some popular temples for e.g. Raghunath ji is dedicated to Lord Rama, which added to the spirituality of the place.

Located 114 km from Dehradun, this place is easily accessible via road. Various cab and bus services are readily available from Dehradun ISBT, Rishikesh and Haridwar bus stand. The nearest railway station is located in Haridwar and Dehradun, at a distance of 93 and 113 km respectively, while the nearest airport is 103 km away in Dehradun.
