About

The Virbhadra Temple is among the most popular temples in Rishikesh. Many devotees visit the shrine daily to seek the blessings of Veerbhadra, a fierce form of Lord Shiva. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is said to be around 1300 years old. Although devotees visited the temple throughout the year, the night-long Jagran held on the occasion of Mahashivratri and during the holy Sawan month attracts a large number of pilgrims.

Virbhadra- A Kshetrapal Deity

The temple complex consists of several Ficus religiosa Trees, commonly known as peepal trees. One of them is truly unique, as it houses a Shivling that is naturally surrounded by a peepal tree. The architectural design of the temple is unique and different from other temples. As soon as you enter the shrine, a huge idol of Lord Shiva comes into view. The temple offers a serene and calm environment, which helps devotees to connect with the divine. The Veerbhadra temple is also regarded as the Kshetrapal deity (protector of the town), which further adds to its significance.

Temple History
