About

Triveni Ghat is one of the largest and most popular ghats in Rishikesh. Located just 2 km away from the Rishikesh bus stand, it is often visited by devotees and tourists alike. On the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya, and other religious gatherings, the ghat is surrounded by thousands of devotees who come here for sacred bathing. Along with daily religious activities, the local committee also organises a Dussehra fair near the ghat.

Triveni Ghat, Rishikesh

Rishikesh - the Yoga Capital of the world- is famous for its various ghats, including Parmarth Niketan Ghat, Swarg Ashram Ghat, Gita Bhawan Ghat, Sai Ghat, and Satrughan Ghat. Of these, the Triveni Ghat is particularly popular and holds special significance, often visited by people to perform sacred rituals. The ghat is easily accessible from the major places in Rishikesh via local transportation services.

Confluence of Three Holy Rivers

The world Triveni is formed from two words: "Tri", meaning three, and "Veni", meaning "confluence". The place refers to the sacred confluence of three holy rivers: the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati. It is believed that taking a holy dip on this particular day grants salvation from all sins.

The ghat is also deeply rooted in mythology. As per the legend, it is the same place where Lord Rama sought redemption for the sin of killing a Brahmin (the demon Ravana).

Another folklore states that Lord Krishna also visited this place after being struck by a hunter's arrow.

Triveni Ghat Ganga Aarti

Almost every ghat in Rishikesh is known for its Ganga Aarti. Still, the Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat and Parmarth Niketan Ghat is special, drawing a large number of devotees daily. The aarti usually begins at dusk, around 6:00 PM, though people start gathering much before it to secure a good place. The rhythmic hymn and Vedic chants recited by the priest create a serene and magical environment that binds people in a single thread.

Sacred Bathing

The Ganga River is particularly known for cleansing all sins, and with this belief, several devotees visit here for sacred bathing. The ghat becomes crowded, especially on the auspicious occasions and religious events.

Ganesh Visarjan

Every year on the occasion of Ganesh Visarjan, Triveni Ghat resonates with the loud noise of Ganpatti Bappa Maurya. Several devotees enshrine the idol of Lord Ganesh during Ganesh Chaturthi, and on the last day of the festival, the idols are immersed in the sacred water of the Ganga.
