The Shri Prakasheshwar Mahadev Temple, popularly known as Shiv Temple, is located on Kuthal Gate Mussoorie Road in Dehradun city. Located 12 km from Dehradun city and 21 km from the bus stand, it is well connected by road. Despite the many temples of Lord Shiva in Dehradun, Shri Prakasheshwar Temple is renowned among the devotees. Except for water, donation and prasad from devotees are strictly prohibited, which is one of the unique distinctions of this temple in the country. Consequently, donation boxes and prasad shops are unavailable both inside and outside the temple premises. Owned by an undisclosed individual, the architecture structure of the temple is splendid, accentuated by its dark red exterior color. As per the temple committee, Shivling in the shrine is millions of years old, formed from frozen ice crystals. On regular days, a large number of devotees come to pay homage to Bholenath. However, on the auspicious days of Shivratri and Sawan, the temple filled with a huge influx of devotees. Bhandara is also organized by the temple committee for the devotees and a complimentary tea. Additionally, within the premises. visitors may find some shops where they can buy a good quality of gems and stones.

Best Time to Visit
Shrine doors remain open for the devotees throughout the week. However, morning and evening are considered the best times to visit the temple. Nevertheless, one must take care of the monsoon season.
