Every year, on the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi Purnima, a fair is held near the lake attended mostly by nearby villagers.

Perched at an elevation of 1,700 meters, Lohakham Tal is located near Harish Village in the Okhalkanda development block. Just 3 km from Harish Tal, Lohakham Tal is known for its scenic surroundings and peaceful atmosphere. Its name Lohakham Tal is derived from two words : 'Loh' and 'Khamtal', where Loh means 'Iron' and Khamtal means a 'Basin'. The lake is a vital water source for the nearby villagers and holds great ecological value. For visitors, the lake is nothing more than a hidden gem, ensuring unforgettable memories for visitors.
 

Lohakham Trek

Although the site can be reached by road with some walking distance to the left, there are some adventure lovers who love to explore the site by trekking. Far from commercialization, Lohakham Lake is perfect for trek enthusiasts. Its scenic 4 km trail left the people awestruck. The trail is moderate and can be covered easily without any major issue.

  • Carry all the important tools for your vehicle.
  • Ensure your fuel tank is full, as the area lacks petrol pumps.
  • Bring enough cash, as there are no ATMs nearby.
  • Since the site doesn't offer accommodation service, it is advisable to bring your own tent if staying overnight.
  • Wear comfortable hiking or trekking shoes, as to access the site one needs to walk some distance.
  • Carry enough water to stay hydrated.
  • Avoid using soap or shampoo while taking a bath in the lake.

How to Reach

By Road : - Lohakham Tal is located around 66 km from Kathgodam, Nainital and can be reached by road using a car or two wheeler. However, the road conditions are a mixed, as some sections are good, while other stretches are in poor conditions, an pose a lot of challenges. Alternatively, one can also use a shared taxi which is limited to the site.
 

By Rail : - The nearest railway station is Kathgodam, which is well connected to the cities like Dehradun, Haridwar, and Delhi. Visitors can book a taxi from the station to reach the site conveniently.
 

By Air : - The closest airport is in Pantnagar, around 35 km away from Kathgodam Railway Station. From the airport, visitors can book a taxi as direct transportation to the site is not available.

Best Time to Visit

Spring or the post monsoon season is the ideal time to visit Lohakham Tal. As the journey is quite challenging during the monsoon due to unmetalled road, landslides, and road blockages.
