Every famous temple of Uttarakhand has its own belief, inspiring the emotions of millions. In accordance with these beliefs, the Mahasu Devta Temple is situated in the Lakhwar area of Jaunsar Bawar in Uttarakhand. Nestled in the lap of nature, Lakhwar Char Mahasu Temple is known for its exquisite cedar wood workmanship, the temple offers a beautiful panoramic view especially during morning and evening. The traditional costumes and food here are quite popular among the people. The morning and evening aarti held in the temple remains the centre of attraction among the devotees, who come from afar to be a part of it. It is said that a group of 4 brothers (Botha, Pavasi, Baseek, and Chalda) is known as Mahasu and this particular temple is dedicated to Chalda Maharaj. The temples of Botha and Pavasi Maharaj ji are situated in Hanol, while Bashik Maharaj ji temple is situated in Mendrath, located 9 km before Hanol. As per the local belief, Chalda Maharaj Ji is the protector of entire Jaunsar Bawar and Himachal Pradesh, hence he holds a place in every temple here. In the year 2022, Chalda Maharaj ji migrated from Samalta to Dasau after 67 years, then in the year 2026, he will migrate to Himachal and then to Uttarakhand, continuing this tradition for years. The Jagda of Mahasu Devta Ji held in the month of Bhadon is considered a pious ritual here, recently declared a state fair."
