Govindghat is a small yet renowned village located in the Chamoli District of Uttarakhand. Being a well-known stopover, Govindghat holds a special place for those travelling to Hemkund Sahib or the Valley of Flowers. Situated at the confluence of the Alaknanda and Laxman Ganga rivers, the place is known for its serenity. Nestled at an altitude of 6,000 feet, it is surrounded by towering mountains and offers scenic natural views, especially in the morning and evening.

Govindghat, The Base Camp

Located around 266 km from Rishikesh, Govindghat is well-connected by a motorable road. Visitors can access the village easily using public or private transport. Situated on the route to Badrinath Dham, Govindghat is visited by a multitude of devotees and adventure lovers alike.
 

During the peak season of Char Dham Yatra, the area often feels crowded. Being a base camp of Hemkund Sahib and the Valley of Flowers, Govindghat helps visitors to acclimatise to the high altitude conditions.
 

From Govindghat, Shri Hemkund Sahib Ji is around 20 km away, while the Valley of Flowers is approximately 16 km away. The last motorable point from Govindghat is Pulna, located around 5 km away. From Pulna, visitors begin their trek to Ghangaria, which is also known as the trekker's base camp. Govindghat also offers heli services to Ghangaria, which requires prior registration.

By Road:

  • It can be reached by bus and taxis available from the Rishikesh Bus Stand.
  • Both buses and taxis usually depart early in the morning.
  • Similar transport services are also available from Haridwar and Dehradun Bus Stands.

By Rail: The nearest railway station is Yog Nagri Rishikesh Railway Station, located about 266 km away. From Rishikesh, visitors can continue their journey to Govindghat by road.
 

By Air: Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest, and is located around 277 km away. To continue the journey, visitors must reach Rishikesh, which is around 16 km away.

Govindghat is mainly visited by pilgrims travelling to Hemkund Sahib and adventure lovers to the Valley of Flowers. The best time to visit here is considered from May to June and August to October.
