Forest Research Institute popularly known as FRI is the Central Government's prestigious Natural Resource Service training institute. This educational institution also provides forestry research for Indian Forest Service (IFS) cadre officers and all Indian State Forest Service Cadres.
Previously Forest Research Institute was known as Imperial Forest Research Institute. It is located in a beautiful city Dehradun in Uttarakhand. The campus of FRI is spread over 450 hectare with a backdrop of Himalayan and lush greenery.

Attractions

  • Building of FRI was built during the time of British Era which is a major center of attraction. The construction of FRI building was started after the land was acquired in the year 1923 and the inauguration of building was done in the year 1929.
  • The FRI building is also popular for shootings of films in which many major Bollywood Films got shot in FRI campus.
  • Museum in FRI is also a point of attraction. Visitor can find 6 different type of museums which are rich in knowledge and offered a unique learning experience for tourists for many years. The 6 type of museum in FRI are as follows :-

    • Non-Wood Forest Products Museum.

    • Silviculture Museum.
    • Social Forestry Museum.

  • The opening time of FRI Museum is 09:30 AM and the closing time is 05:00 PM.

Entry Fees

  • Visitors has to pay a nominal entry fee of Rs. 40/- per person and there is also parking fees for vehicles.

Best Time to Visit

Except for Gazetted holidays, this place welcomes visitors throughout the year. However, visitors can enjoy it more during the evening in summer and throughout the day in winters. To enter the premises, you must purchase a ticket of Rs 15 per person.
