About

The Beatles Ashram, also known as Chaurasi Kutiya, is one such place that attracts tourists from far and wide. Located near Rishikesh, the Beatles Ashram falls within the Rajaji National Park area. Once used as a training centre by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the ashram gained attention in 1968 when the renowned English rock band "The Beatles" visited the site.

Situated near the bank of the Ganges River, the area is known for its serenity and natural beauty. Surrounded by lush green forest, the ashram echoes with history, spirituality and creativity. It could be an ideal spot for those seeking peace and a place close to nature.

Chaurasi Kutiya- Sanctuary of 84 cottages

The Beatles Ashram is locally known as Chaurasi Kutiya, where Chaurasi (a Hindi numeral) means 84. The name refers to the total number of mediation huts constructed within the ashram. These huts are double-story structures that provide a personal space to individuals for practising meditation. Currently, most of these huts are in tattered conditions, and none of them are suitable for meditation during your visit. All these meditation chambers are made of rock collected from the river, with each cave representing a different classic Yoga Asana. Whereas, collectively, these caves represent the whole range of Human Life.

The Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ashram

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi established the International Academy of Meditation here to teach meditation techniques to his followers. The ashram gained attention when it was visited by a popular rock band, "The Beatles' to learn meditation. The time they spent here is said to be a golden period, as most of the songs they wrote during their stay were widely popular. Nowadays, the site is mostly visited by Beatles fans and spiritual seekers. Inside, you can see a large hall where the band used to practice during their visit. The hall is now surrounded by graffiti and artwork dedicated to The Beatles. Within the premises, there is a small temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Art Gallery

Within the premises, there is a dedicated gallery showcasing the photographs and stories of "The Beatles" during their visit to the ashram. For many, this gallery is pure nostalgia as it offers a glimpse of the journey of the band here. In addition to this, a gallery dedicated to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and wildlife was also placed here.

Canteen

A small canteen is also available inside the ashram, offering light snacks along with tea, coffee and others. After a long walk throughout the property, the canteen provides a spot to rest and rejuvenate.
