About

Bhavishya Badri, the sacred shrine of Badri Vishal, is located in Subhain Village of Chamoli district. The significance of this shrine is huge, as it is believed to be the future seat of the Badrinath Temple. Surrounded by towering cedar trees, Bhavishya Badri Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, where pilgrims worship him in his fourth avatar, known as Narasimha. During the Char Dham Yatra, the shrine is visited by a large number of devotees.

Situated on the Joshimath-Tapovan road, Bhavishya Badri Temple is approximately 29 km away from Joshimath. After crossing the Tapovan Inn Hotel, a small, narrow road leads to the temple, while the other route heads towards the Niti Valley. The gurgling sound of the Dhauliganga River can be heard from far, especially during the morning and evening. A few kilometres ahead of Tapovan, Dhauliganga adjoins the Alaknanda River, and this confluence is the first of the five significant Prayags of Uttarakhand.

The Future Seat of Badrinath Shrine

From Rishikeh, the Bhavishya Badri Temple is situated about 275 km away. The shrine is easily accessible by motorable transport up to the temple, followed by a short climb. Situated at an elevation of 2,744 metres, the temple is surrounded by serene cedar forests. Earlier, pilgrims had to trek nearly 6 km to reach the shrine. Since the construction of the road, the Bhavishya Badri Trek distance has been reduced to a few metres.

Unlike other popular temples in the region, Bhavishya Badri is less crowded, allowing devotees ample time to offer prayers. The serene atmosphere of the temple provides an opportunity to connect with the divine beauty through meditation. The temple is believed to be the future seat of the Badrinath Shrine. According to scriptures, when Lord Vishnu incarnates as Kalki, it will mark the end of the Kaliyuga and the beginning of the Satyuga.

History of Bhavishya Badri Mandir

Legend has it that at the onset of Kalyuga, when evil will spread across the world, the arm of the Narsingh idol at Joshimath will fall off. Due to this event, Nar and Narayana mountains, the gatekeepers of Vishnu's abode, will collapse and make the present shrine of Badrinath inaccessible to pilgrims. Afterwards, in the Satyuga Era, the pilgrimage to Badrinath will be re-established at Bhavishya Badri, where Lord Vishnu will be worshipped.

Part of the Panch and Sapt Badri Circuit

Bhavishya Badri Temple is an important part of both the Panch Badri and the Sapt Badri circuits. Both are prominent circuits in the region and are often completed by several devotees. The Panch Badri includes Badrinath, Adi Badri, Vriddha Badri, Yogdhyan Badri, and Bhavishya Badri. On the other hand, the Sapt Badri circuit further includes two additional shrines, namely Dhyan Badri and Ardha Badri.
