Mukteshwar Temple is a revered site located in Mukteshwar, Nainital. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Mukhteshwar Dham mandir holds the religious heritage of 350 years. Situated at an elevation of 7,500 feet above sea level, the temple offers majestic views of the surrounding landscape, attracting a large number of devotees and spiritual seekers. The temple is associated with the Pandavas, as it is believed that they constructed it during their exile.

Mukteshwar Temple, Nainital

From Nainital, Mukteshwar Dham Mandir is located around 49 km away. Pilgrims can reach the temple by shared taxis, which run frequently on this route. Surrounded by forests and lush green mountains, the temple offers a surreal view. To access the shrine, visitors need to climb a few stairs from the main entrance gate.
 

The main sanctum of Mukteshwar Mahadev Dham is enshrined with a marble Shivlinga with a copper yoni. In addition, it also features idols of Lord Ganesh, Nandi Ji, Lord Hanuman, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Brahma. Within the complex, there is a Devi temple where visitors usually offer coconuts. Mukteshwar Mandir premises also houses a Samadhi Mandir of Brahmalin Pujya Shri Mukteshwar Maharaj Ji. To offer prasad at the temple, devotees can buy it from the shops located at the entrance gate.

Mukteshwar Mahadev Dham

After seeking the darshan of Mahadev, pilgrims usually perform circumambulation (parikrama) of the temple. However, as per the instructions displayed on the notice board, devoteees are advised to avoid performing the complete parikrama of the Shiv Mandir.

After seeking blessings, pilgrims can enjoy the breathtaking views of Mukteshwar Valley from the backside of the temple. From here, visitors can also see another popular attraction known as "Chauli Ki Jaali". The cool breeze with the fragrance of deodar trees refreshes both the body and mind. A large number of people visit here to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva, especially on weekends and other festive occasions. To manage crowds, Mukteshwar temple has a dedicated exit gate.

History of Mukteshwar Dham Mandir

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva killed a demon at this place and granted him salvation. Since then, the site has been revered as Mukteshwar Dham. It is considered one of the prominent shrines of Lord Shiva across the country. It is also believed that the Pandavas also visited here during their exile and enshrined a Shivalinga.
