Uttarkashi is home to many religious sites that attract numerous devotees. Of these, one shrine that is still relatively unknown yet holds special significance is the Jagannath Temple. Located just 7 km from Uttarkashi city, the temple is surrounded by lush green landscapes and offers a peaceful atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of town life. The temple is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, a highly revered form of Lord Vishnu. During their Uttarkashi, devotees often come here to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath and to experience the serenity of the temple's surroundings.

Shree Jagannath Temple, Uttarkashi

Uttarkashi is primarily known for its Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines, which are an important part of the Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra. Apart from these two, several other religious sites, like the Kashi Vishwanath Mandir. Mukhwa Ganga Mandir also attracts devotees. However, among these popular shrines, the Jagannath Mandir of Uttarkashi is hardly known by many. The temple gained attention after being visited by popular Odia actor Sabyasachi Mishra and his wife Achita. The couple visited the shrine on the occasion of Bahuda Yatra, the concluding day of the popular Jagannath Rath Yatra. Post their visit, they shared a glimpse on social media, and since then, people have started visiting this hidden gem.
 

However, due to its lesser-known popularity, the temple doesn't offer better connectivity. Visitors usually need to book a taxi or other available modes to reach the shrine. The temple is not completely accessible by vehicle, and a short walk is required to reach the temple.

12th-century Old Uttarkashi Jagannath Mandir

Nestled amidst the serene landscapes of Sald Village, Shree Jagannath Mandir is known for its calm and peaceful ambience. It is a historical temple which is believed to have been laid by the revered Adi Shankaracharya in the 12th century. Lord Jagannath, the presiding deity of the temple, is regarded as the ancestral deity of the Sald villagers. The temple also houses a few emblems that represent the culture and folklore of Lord Jagannath.

By Road: Uttarkashi's Jagannath Temple is located approximately 148 km from Dehradun. Devotees can reach the site using a bus and shared taxis up to the Uttarkashi Bus Stand. From there, visitors can hire a taxi to reach the shrine, which is just 7 km away. Bus services to reach Uttarkashi can be availed from the Dehradun Hill Bus Stand and also, private bus services from Dehradun to Uttarkashi are available near Parade Ground. In addition, regular bus and shared taxi services are also available from Haridwar and Rishikesh.
 

By Rail: The closest railway station to the temple is Dehradun Railway Station, about 146 km away. The station is well-connected to Delhi, with daily train services. The station is situated close to the Dehradun Hill Bus Stand, providing visitors to continue their journey.
 

By Air: The nearest airport to the temple is Dehradun's Jolly Grant, approximately 170 km away. From the airport, visitors can travel to Rishikesh, located around 16 km away. Rishikesh also offer bus and taxi facilities to Uttarkashi.
