Geeta Bhawan, Rishikesh

Located on the banks of the holy River Ganges, the Gita Bhawan is situated close to the Swargashram. The Bhawan was established in 1936 by Swami Sivananda. Owing to its name, its walls are adorned with powerful shlokas from the sacred Bhagwat Gita, which usually motivate people, especially those who are in distress. The Gita Bhawan complex houses a temple dedicated to Goddess Laxmi and Lord Narayan. Pilgrims seek the blessing of Lord Narayan and Goddess Laxmi here during their visit. Despite the temple being surrounded by various pilgrims, the serenity and peaceful ambience are amazing.

Old Banyan Tree

Within the premises, there is an ancient banyan tree, standing tall for ages. Its huge trunk is wrapped with threads of prayer tied by the devotees, with the belief that their wishes will be fulfilled.

Dharamshala

Every year, lakhs of pilgrims visit Gita Bhawan. To accommodate such visitors, it houses a Dharamshala with over 1000 rooms. Unlike others, these rooms are provided free of cost to visitors.

Gita Press Book Store

Geeta Press, based in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, is one of the largest publishers of Hindu religious texts. A dedicated bookstore of this publisher is available in the premises, offering a wide range of Hindu literature, including the Gita Adaptation, Ramayana, Mahabharata version and others at nominal prices.

Ayurvedic Centre

Besides all, Gita Bhawan is also known for its Ayurvedic centre. Backed by extensive research, their experienced Ayurvedic department prepares medicines for various diseases. Visitors can purchase these Ayurvedic medicines from the store located within the premises.

Opening and Closing Time

Pilgrims must visit the ashram during its opening hours. Geeta Bhawan opens its doors for daily visits around 8:30 AM and remains open until 7:30 PM. The time may change as per the season and the authority's instructions.

Gita Bhawan in Rishikesh provides free accommodation facilities to all its visitors, subject to room availability. However, those who don't want to stay in the ashram can also stay nearby.
