About

Ghangaria is a small village located en route to Hemkund and the Valley of Flowers. Despite being a small village, it plays an important role for both devotees and trekkers, as it is the last human habitation on this route. Devotees visiting Hemkund Sahib and trekkers travelling to the Valley of Flowers use this village as their base camp. It provides accommodation, food and other facilities for visitors. During the Char Dham Yatra season, Ghangaria comes alive with pilgrims and trekkers.

Ghangaria - Base camp of Hemkund Sahib and Valley of Flowers

Situated at an altitude of more than 3,000 m, Ghangaria is about 14 km from Govindghat, the last motorable point on the route. Govindghat is situated approximately 261 km from Rishikesh and is easily accessible by bus and taxi. Located on the confluence of the Hemganga and Pashupati rivers, Ghangaria is known for its remarkable natural beauty. To access the village, pilgrims and nature lovers need to trek around 9 km from Pulna, or they can also avail pony services. After reaching Govindghat, visitors can take a shared taxi to Pulna, which is the starting point of the trek. Earlier, people started trekking from Govindghat as motor roads are not available to Pulna.

Ghangaria Attractions

Lush green towering mountains, clear skies and vibrant flora and fauna are among Ghangaria's major attractions. Being the base camp for both Hemkund Sahib and the Valley of Flowers, the village offers something for every visitor.

The Valley of Flowers is located about 4 km from Ghangaria and remains open to visitors for only a limited period each year. On the other hand, Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara is situated around 6 km from Ghangaria. However, the trail to Hemkund Sahib is much steeper and more challenging compared to the trail of the Valley of Flowers.

It does not matter whether you are visiting Hemkund Sahib or Valley of Flowers; you have to return to Ghangaria by evening, as neither offers accommodation facilities. Ghangaria also has a dedicated helipad, which provides heli services from Govindghat.
