Anantnag is one of the most charming places in the paradise of Jammu and Kashmir. Located in the Kashmir region, Anantnag is a hotspot among tourists. Surrounded by the towering Karakoram range to the east and Pirpanjal range to the south, it offers an awestruck view of the surroundings. Its miles long lush green meadows, lofty mountains, and refreshing weather attracts visitors round the year. Situated 57 km from Srinagar, it is the third largest city of Jammu and Kashmir and boasts the highest number of streams in the Union Territory. Land of Countless Springs

The name Anantnag is derived by two words Anant meaning "many", and Nag, which means "spring" in the local dialect, hence it earns the title "Land of Countless Springs". Its Sanskrit name Anantanaga is mentioned in ancient texts like Nilamata Purana. Locally, Anantnag is also referred to as Islamabad, which is believed to be derived from Mughal governor Islam Khan.

Anantnag is renowned for its serene weather and picturesque landscapes. Additionally, it is also known for its ancient places, such as Masjid Baba Dawood Khaki. It is believed that it is the oldest mosque in the city built around 1400 CE. The mosque is named after revered Sheikh Baba Dawood Khaki and holds immense spiritual significance for the Muslim community.

    Achabal.Said to be the most beautiful spring in Anantnag Valley. The water flowing through the center of the garden looks, along with fountain, look stunning.
    PahalgamPahalgam is the most famous health resort of Anantnag. Its pleasant summer weather rejuvenates tourists. Besides this, it also serves the traditional route to the revered Amarnath Cave.

By Road : - Anantnag is well connected to major cities in Jammu and Kashmir. It is just 57 km from Srinagar and is easily accessible by JKSRTC buses and taxis. 
 

By Rail : - The nearest railway station is in Anantnag, around 5 km from the main city. However, the major rail head that connects with Delhi and other cities is in Srinagar, around 48 km away. From the station, visitors can take a bus and taxi to reach the destination.
 

By Air : - The nearest airport is in Srinagar, which offers regular flights from major cities. From the airport, visitors can book a taxi or take a bus from the nearby bus stand to reach the location.

Best Time to Visit

The ideal time to visit Anantnag is during the summer months, especially March to June. However, one can also visit here during winters to witness snowfall.
