If you are planning to visit the coldest desert of Uttarakhand, Adi Kailash, the sacred place where Lord Shiva himself is believed to reside, obtaining an Inner Line Permit (ILP) is mandatory for all. You can get this pass either online or offline. In this article, we have shared the complete process of how to obtain an Inner Liner Permit/Pass for Adi Kailash.
 

Situated in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, Adi Kailash is known by various names, such as Shiva Kailash, Chota Kailash, or Jonglingkong Peak. Since the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit, the site has gained immense popularity, especially among adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers. Both Adi Kailash and OM Parvat are part of the Vyas Valley.
 

To maintain the ecological balance and to preserve its sanctity, the authority has made it mandatory to obtain an Inner Line Permit. No tourist will be permitted beyond Chiyalekh without an Inner Line Permit. So, before embarking, make sure you have obtained the Adi Kailash Inner Line Pass.

How to Apply for a Permit for Adi Kailash Yatra?

Visitors can apply for the Adi Kailash Yatra permit in two ways: -

  • Online by applying through the department portal.
  • Offline, by visiting the base area directly.

Below, we have discussed both modes of the Application Process of Adi Kailash Inner Line Permit in detail, and a tip at the end, which will help visitors get their Adi Kailash Pass.
 

Kindly note: Permits are issued only to Indian citizens. Applications from foreign nationals will not be entertained and are summarily rejected by the authorities.
 

Important Note: Currently, the Inner Line Permits are issued only to visitors participating in the Adi Kailash Parikrama Marathon, which will be held from 28 October 2025 to 3 November 2025. During this period, permits will be granted to marathon participants. Other visitors can apply for the permits after this event, until the portal remains closed.

How to Apply Online for the Adi Kailash Inner Line Permit?

  • Visit the Innerline Permit Portal, i.e. https://pass.pithoragarh.online/.
  • The portal home page will appear before you.
  • On the home page, select the "Adi Kailash Pithoragarh" tab.

  • It will ask you to log in, but if you are not a registered user, click on the "Sign Up" button to create an account.

  • For registration, enter your general details, like
    • Email Address
    • User Name (Must be unique)
    • Mobile Number, and
    • Password.

  • Press the "Register" tab to complete the process.
  • Submitted username and mobile number details will be shared via Email.

  • After registering successfully, the user dashboard appears.
  • From the dashboard, select the "Apply for Pass".

  • The registration form for the Adi Kailash Inner Line Permit will be displayed.

  • Enter the details in the registration form carefully.
  • After filling in the details, upload the required documents.
  • Tick the declaration box and click "Apply for Permit".
  • Review the details submitted in the registration form that appear on the next page.
  • Enter your place name and digitally sign in the given space.
  • Click the submit tab to proceed with the Innerline permit fee.
  • Click on the "Pay" button to complete the permit fee through UPI, Card, Net Banking, or Wallet.
  • You can also scan the QR code displayed on your screen to pay the fee.
  • Once the payment is successful, its confirmation appears on the screen.
  • With the payment step, the Inner Line Permit pass registration process for Adi Kailash is now complete.
  • You can check the status of your pass through your dashboard.
  • Once approved, download and print the pass.
  • Read all the details and adhere to the guidelines shared on the pass.
  • Keep at least 3 to 4 copies of your permit, as it will be checked at multiple checkpoints during your journey.
  • By following a similar process, you can apply for the OM Parvat Inner Line Permit.

How to Apply Offline for Adi Kailash Yatra Permit?

  • Visitors who are unfamiliar with the online process or who find it cumbersome can also apply for an Adi Kailash permit offline.
  • To do so, visitors need to reach Dharchula, which serves as the base for the yatra.
  • Obtain the Inner Line Permit registration form from the SDM Office, Dharchula.
  • Affix all the relevant documents to the permit application and submit it to the SDM office.
  • Pay the requested Inner Line permit fee for Adi Kailash Yatra, which is currently Rs 200/-.
  • Officials will verify the documents and details shared in the form.
  • If they are satisfied with the documents and details, a permit will be issued.
  • Take a photocopy of the permit, as it will be asked to present at the designated checkpoints.

Documents Required for Adi Kailash Yatra Inner Line Permit

Before applying for the Adi Kailash Yatra Permit either online or offline, visitors must keep the following documents ready.

  • One valid identity proof (preferably Aadhaar Card)
  • Medical Certificate (issued by a Government Hospital in the prescribed format)
  • OPD Fee Slip (obtained during the medical certificate process)
  • Police Verification Certificate (issued by the local police station)
  • Self-Declaration Affidavit (issued from the court on Rs. 100/- stamp paper)

Adi Kailash Yatra Permit Fee

  • Currently, the fee for the Adi Kailash Inner Line Permit is Rs 200/- for a single person.
  • The fee can be paid: -
    • Online- if applying for the permit through the web portal
    • Offline- at the Dharchula, SDM office.
  • The online fee can be paid through any mode, i.e. Card, Net Banking, UPI or by E-wallet.

Procedure to Obtain Adi Kailash Yatra Permit

The process to obtain the Adi Kailash Yatra ILP is not easy, as it usually takes one to two days to issue the pass. The stages involved in the issuance of a permit are given here: -

  • Visit the nearest Government Hospital to obtain a medical certificate in the given format.
  • The officials have shared the medical certificate format online.
  • Pay the OPD fee for the medical certificate and keep the OPD fee slip safe, as it must be shared when applying for the permit.
  • Once declared medically fit, the doctor will issue the medical certificate.
  • After this, visit the nearest police station for police verification.
  • Police will verify your background, and if they find everything correct, they will issue a police verification certificate in the format given here.
  • Visit the nearby court to issue a self-declaration affidavit.
  • The affidavit must be issued on Rs 100/- stamp paper, whose format is shared online. Click here for the format.
  • After collecting all these documents, apply for the permit either online or by visiting the Dharchula directly.
  • You can obtain these documents either from the native places or in Dharchula itself.
  • During the process, you must provide a local emergency contact number, which will be used in case of an emergency.
  • If you do not have any contacts, you can share the contact details of the accommodation you are staying in Dharchula.
  • For this, you must first book an accommodation in Dharchula.
  • Post submitting these documents and the application form, the authority will verify them.
  • If they found these details valid, they will issue a pass.

Important Point for the Travellers

  • The permit will only be issued for a maximum of 4 days.
  • The ILP will be issued only to Indian nationals.
  • It typically takes one to two days to issue the pass, but sometimes even more.
  • Accommodation must be booked before registration if you do not have a local emergency contact number.
  • Applying offline is more convenient than applying online, as the online process usually takes more time.
  • You can also apply for an Inner Line permit through the Common Service Centre (CSC) in Dharchula.
  • The CSC agent will take an additional service fee of Rs 150-200.
  • Before planning your journey, check the weather and road conditions from the concerned authority.

Tip For the Visitors: Permits can also be obtained through various agents in Dharchula, who charge between Rs 1,000 and Rs 2,000/- for the entire process. It will save the time and energy of the visitors.
